Ecologies of Color is a workshop series led by Elsie Lopez of Gold Water Alchemy. In this series we explore the history, usage, application, and tradition of Indigo as used for color, art, dye, and medicine. During this installation of the series, there will be a discussion and demo on the basics of building an Indigo vat. Participants will also create art on cloth using Indigo resist dyeing techniques with another plant popular in the diaspora and throughout the kitchens of many folks — Cassava. Throughout the workshop, we will be discussing other methods of using Indigo and Cassava in herbal and food application.
Each person will leave with their own Indigo dyed pieces.
Most materials are provided. Light refreshments are also provided.
NOTE: this is a 2-day workshop and it is highly recommended that you attend both days.
