Ecologies of Color is a workshop series in which we will explore the history, ritual, application, and tradition of Indigo as used for color, art, and dye. During this installation of the series, there will be a discussion and demo on the basics of building an Indigo vat. Participants will also create art on cloth using Indigo resist dyeing techniques.

Each person will leave with their own Indigo dyed pieces.

Most materials are provided.

WHAT THIS WORKSHOP WILL COVER:
• history of Indigo dye traditions

• folklore of Indigo in various lineages
• indigo vat basics
• resist dyeing techniques
• information on fibers
• hands-on application and experimentation

Please bring your own small-sized cotton or silk cloth, bandanna, or scarf. Limit ONE piece of cloth per person.

Also bring a bag to take your dyed fibers home in.
