Vetiver
Vetiver
The vetiver plant, scientifically known as Chrysopogon zizanioides, is a perennial bunchgrass native to tropical Asia, particularly India, Pakistan, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. It is renowned for its aromatic roots, which are used in perfumes and essential oils. Medicinally, Vetiver roots are prized for cooling, calming, and grounding effects in traditional Asian medicine. Vetiver is also valued for its soil conservation properties, as its deep root system (7-13+ feet vertically) helps prevent soil erosion and improve soil health. Vetiver tolerates high salinity, heavy metals, and hydrocarbon contamination, helping restore degraded or polluted soils The plant can grow up to 10 feet tall and it produces small brown-purple flowers in elongated panicles, with spikelets in pairs.
