Spilanthes
Spilanthes
Spilanthes aka “Buzz Button” or “The Toothache Plant” is used for oral pain relief, immune support, culinary flavoring, and various traditional medicinal purposes. The plant gets its nickname "Toothache Plant" because chewing the flowers or leaves produces a tingling or numbing sensation, which can relieve tooth pain and oral discomfort. This effect is due to bioactive compounds like spilanthol. Traditional medicine uses Spilanthes for treating infections, gum inflammation, and minor wounds. The plant exhibits antibacterial and antifungal properties helpful in oral hygiene and other minor infections. Extracts from the plant have been used to stimulate the immune system, possibly aiding in resistance against pathogens. Beyond oral pain, Spilanthes may be used in folk medicine for general pain relief due to its analgesic properties.
