It is a  versatile plant used for its fruit, leaves, bark, and seeds in culinary, medicinal, cosmetic, and ornamental applications worldwide. It produces distinctive spiny fruits with sweet and tangy pulp, which provides vitamins (C, B1, B2),  minerals (potassium,  magnesium, calcium), fiber, and antioxidants, making it a nutritional addition to the diet.

Medicinally, traditional uses include: support for immune function, sugar  regulation, cardiovascular health, digestive health, analgesic effects, skin and hair care.

The tree can live 30–50 years, with peak fruit production from 3–5 years after planting.
