Bay Laurel Tree
Bay Laurel Tree
Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis) is a versatile tree valued for culinary, medicinal, ornamental, and symbolic purposes. Bay Laurel leaves, commonly known as bay leaves, are widely used as an aromatic herb in cooking. They add a sweet, mild flavor to soups, stews, sauces, meats, and fish, and are often used to aid digestion and reduce bloating. Bay leaves can also be combined with other herbs like garlic, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and basil to enhance flavor.
Bay laurel can grow 10–60 ft tall and 5–20 ft wide in ideal conditions, thriving in USDA zones 8–10, with best results in full sun to partial shade and well‑drained soil. It is one of the few culinary herbs that behaves like a long‑lived tree; it adapts easily to container growing, responding well to pruning/height management.
