Ecologies of Color is a workshop series led by Elsie Lopez of Gold Water Alchemy. In this series we explore the history, usage, application, and tradition of Indigo as used for color, art, dye, and medicine. Through Ecologies of Color we probe the other materials that are used throughout the Indigo dyeing process.

During this installation of the series there will be a discussion on the basics of building an Indigo vat, including a preview of tools and equipment. Attendees will learn resist dyeing techniques and create designs + abstract art on their pieces using a variety of materials.

There will also be an experimental surprise! Come ready to have fun and feel inspired to dive deeper into a beloved craft or start something new!

Each person will leave with their own Indigo dyed pieces. Most materials are provided. Light refreshments are also provided.

NOTE: Please bring your own small-sized cotton, silk, or wool cloth, bandanna, or scarf. Limit to 3 pieces of cloth per person. Also bring a bag to take your dyed fibers home in.
