How to Get Involved

If you like us and believe that the mission here at Eat Your Yard Jax is vital, there are many ways you can help. Our mission is to educate children and adults on growing healthy food by providing demonstrations and resources to empower them to participate in urban agriculture.

Here is how you can help:

GIVE

Our mission is to help fuel the agricultural revolution and to educate children and adults on growing healthy food by providing demonstrations and resources to empower them to participate in urban agriculture, which comes with a lot of cost. The more funds we have, the more impact on our community we can help and educate. Help us say ‘yes’ to more musts by contributing today!

HELP

Opportunities to give with your hands are available throughout the year. We regularly hold Volunteer Days to help us keep our urban agriculture gardens up-to-date and well-maintained.

ADVOCATE

Much of the funding needed to help others eat their yard comes from public sources, like you. To continue to help fuel the agriculture revolution and spread awareness quickly needs to be heightened. We need our local state and federal representatives to prioritize the funding of agriculture. You can ask your representatives to ensure these sources grow in their commitment to agriculture.

SHARE

Lastly, as a conservationist and a member of the EYYJ family, we hope you’ll share with your network the good work we are accomplishing together. The threat of overdevelopment continues to grow aggressively and with it our need to act quickly. To meet our goals, we will need our family to grow. Whether you share the mission of EYYJ in person/online or follow and share our social media accounts you’ll help spread the word and grow our region’s understanding of the importance of the agricultural revolution.

Ways you can support EYYJ before the end of the year!

As the current year closes and a new tax year begins, consider making a charitable gift to Eat Your Yard Jax, Inc. This year has once again presented Americans with high inflation and rising interest rates. Despite these conditions, donors have steadfastly continued to support charities and causes that are important to them. Below are a few ways to give at year-end so you can minimize your taxes next year.

MAKING A CASH GIFT

When donating cash to EYYJ, a donor can generally deduct up to 60% of their adjusted gross income. If you prefer to give with a check deliverable by the US postal service, your gift must be postmarked by midnight on December 31st to qualify as a gift for this tax year.

MAKING A GIFT OF STOCK AND APPRECIATED SECURITIES

By giving stock that has been held for at least a year, the 15% capital gains tax typically incurred can be eliminated if you sell. In addition, stock donations to charities, like Eat your Yard Jax, Inc. are eligible for charitable tax deductions on both federal and state taxes, adding up to potentially significant savings.

SATISFYING AN IRA REQUIRED MINIMUM DISTRIBUTION (RMD) THROUGH A QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION (QCD)

Beneficiary designation IRAs or other qualified retirement plans are often one of the most tax-efficient assets to leave to charity because they are taxed heavily when left to heirs. When you designate a nonprofit, such as EYYJ, as the beneficiary of an IRA as part of your estate plan, 100 percent of the gift will be available to support your philanthropic interests.

*Contributions must be received at Eat Your Yard Jax by December 31st, 2024, to qualify as a charitable deduction on 2024 tax returns. Some non-cash asset contributions have review and processing times spanning several weeks or longer. A donor wishing to make a 2024 QCD should submit the request as soon as possible so that it is received by December 31st.
